Aleksander Baron – the chef; learned his skills in many places all over the world – Scotland, the Caribbean, finally as chef at Warsaw’s Nowy Wspaniały Świat – to end up opening Solec together with Martin, furnishing the kitchen by himself and creating a new menu every day.
It is all part of the plan. As Solec has no permanent menu, you won’t find a printed carte, but you can order a dish of your choice from the blackboard with the current selection of foods. Aleks’s cuisine is based on freshly prepared dishes – made from seasonal, locally sourced ingredients – which tempt the palate with the simplicity of taste. We do not freeze food or use semi-products, adding stock cubes is out of the question!
Aleks’s passion for home-made Polish cuisine is also reflected in pickles and preserves that keep appearing on our menu, such as herrings in vinegar, home-marinated olives, jams to be tasted during Sunday brunches, or fruit juices in tempting rich colours, standing proudly on the counter as excellent additions to tea, drinks or mulled wine. Check Best at Solec once in a while to find out what’s cooking!
Some products can be bought at Solec, some can only be tasted on the spot – the enthusiasts of home-made preserves are more than welcome!
